A Chicago man charged with helping to lay the groundwork for the 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai that killed 166 people pleaded not guilty Wednesday in federal court.
In a five-minute arraignment, David Coleman Headley, a 49-year-old Pakistani-American, also waived his right to be indicted by a grand jury. He has been charged with 12 counts in connection with the Mumbai attacks. He appeared in court wearing an orange jumpsuit and blue sneakers; his feet were shackled.
