A British soldier has been killed by small arms fire while on foot patrol in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence says.

The soldier, from A Company 4 Rifles, part of the 3 Rifles Battle Group, came under attack while near a patrol base near Sangin in northern Helmand Province.
